"Christians, Muslims and Jews to Pray for Peace"

A group of Lansing area religious leaders have joined together to form "Faithful People for Peace (FPFP)" and to organize monthly community prayer services. The group has representatives from the three Abrahamic faiths: Christians, Muslims and Jews. Peace services are held at different area houses of worship on a monthly basis.

This Tuesday, November 25 a community service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 218 Ottawa Street, across from the State Capitol building, in Lansing at 7 P.M.

Active in FPFP's coordinating council are Pastor Jan Hite, Redeemer Lutheran, Pastor Tony Patrick, First Presbyterian, Pastor Gary Bunge, St. Stephen Lutheran, Pastor June Mears Driedger, MSU Mennonite Fellowship, Assistant Rector Monique Ellison, St. Paul's Episcopal, Lansing , Pastor Fred Fritz, University Lutheran, Pastor Lyle Heaton, Wacousta United Methodist, Mark Powell, St. Stephen Lutheran, Rabbi Richard Baroff, Congregation Shaarey Zedek, East Lansing, Dr. Mahmoud Mousa and Bassam Mahmoud, Islamic Center in East Lansing.

"With news of violence around the world coming to us everyday. We, the children of Abraham, are delighted as Muslims, Jews and Christians to come together each month and pray to our One God for peace. We invite the Lansing community to join us every month. Our service men and women, our civil leaders and our world need God's help to solve the pressing problems of this time", Coordinating Council Chair Mark Powell said.

The community prayer service will include songs, Qu-ran, Hebrew Bible and New Testament readings, remarks by St. Paul's Assistant Rector, Reverend Monique A. Ellison, silent and public prayer. Everyone in the community is invited to attend the service especially family and friends of area men and women who are serving overseas. The reception after the service is catered by The Sultan's Place in East Lansing.
