Schedule by State Please use the prayer vigil schedule to pray each month for our brothers and sisters in the Christian communities in and around Jerusalem, for all those who are suffering in the Holy Land, for Israelis and Palestinians, and for peace in the Middle East. The prayer vigil began on the First Sunday of Advent 2000 and will continue until the violence ends and we can celebrate a just and lasting negotiated resolution to the conflict. The vigil is coordinated by the US program of the World Council of Churches' Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel. Example: People in Alabama and New York are invited to focus on the Middle East in their daily prayers on December 3, January 3, February 3, etc. Some congregations or communities may organize special prayer services or other ecumenical events on the day of the month assigned their state.
